The Colossal Memory
Iceland: Glaciers and Waterfalls (Jökullinn og Foss)
The Colossal Memory is the title for a series of work based on my travels in Iceland (summer 2013). I participated in the Gullkistan Residency for Creative People in Laugarvatn, Iceland.
These pieces are my response to the beauty, power, and structure of water.
Glaciers, lakes and waterfalls (Jökullinn, Lakes, go Foss) become a metaphor for time.
Each water structure offers a differing perception of time: the rapid and powerful speed of waterfalls, the constant currents of drifting lakes, and the dense floating weight of glaciers are all symbolic of how we interpret time.
I am recreating and celebrating these visual events while continuing to push an abstraction that results from trying to capture fleeting movement (time) into a singular illusionistic moment.
